Cleared to Pack

How we check the rules

Cleared to Pack is an independent reference for what you can bring on a plane. Every ruling comes from the TSA, the FAA, an airline or a government website, and every page links to the sources we used.

How we check

  1. We read the official pages: TSA "What Can I Bring?", FAA PackSafe and the federal hazardous materials rules, airline baggage pages, and security pages from the UK, EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Japan.
  2. We record each ruling as published, with the date we checked it. Where official sources disagree, we say so and give the stricter reading.
  3. Where a rule isn't published, we say so instead of guessing.
  4. Each guide is checked against its sources by a second reviewer before it goes live.
  5. We re-check every page at least monthly, and straight away when an airline or regulator announces a change.

Independence and money

We aren't affiliated with the TSA, any government or any airline. We earn money from ads and from labeled affiliate links to shops such as Amazon. That never changes a ruling.

What we don't do

We don't give legal or medical advice. Security officers decide at the checkpoint, and airlines can be stricter than the law.
