mAh to Wh converter

Watt-hours = milliamp-hours × volts ÷ 1,000. Type in any box and the others update: mAh, Wh, Ah and mWh, at the voltage you choose.

Convert battery capacity

Use the nominal cell voltage on the label (3.6–3.85 V for most power banks), not the 5 V USB output.

The formulas

  • Wh = mAh × V ÷ 1,000
  • mAh = Wh × 1,000 ÷ V
  • Ah = mAh ÷ 1,000, and Wh = Ah × V
  • mWh = Wh × 1,000, so mAh = mWh ÷ V

Example: a 20,000 mAh power bank with 3.7 V cells holds 20,000 × 3.7 ÷ 1,000 = 74 Wh. Airlines set limits in Wh because it measures energy whatever the voltage. The watt-hour guide explains why 3.7 V, not the 5 V printed next to the USB port.
