Yes. Cartridge razors (and electric shavers) are fine in carry-on bags. A safety razor can only be carried on with the blade removed; pack its blades in checked luggage.
Cartridge razors, including spare cartridges, are allowed because the blades are fixed in the cartridge. A double-edge safety razor is only allowed through the checkpoint without its blade, and you must remove the blade yourself beforehand because TSA officers will not take it out for you.
Both cartridge and safety razors, with blades, are allowed in checked bags. Wrap or sheathe it in checked bags so baggage handlers and TSA inspectors can't get cut.
Checked against official TSA, FAA and government pages on . These are US rules unless we say otherwise; the TSA officer at the checkpoint makes the final call.
The rules in numbers
- Cartridge razors and replacement cartridges: allowed in carry-on
- Safety razor: carry-on only with the blade removed before screening
- Loose safety-razor blades (not in a cartridge): checked bags only
- Electric shavers and trimmers: allowed in carry-on
Packing tips
- If you shave with a safety razor, pack the handle in your carry-on and the blade pack in your checked bag, or buy a cheap cartridge or disposable razor at your destination.
- Take the safety-razor blade out at home: officers won't remove it for you, so a loaded razor at the checkpoint means losing it or going back to check it.
- A cartridge razor with a stack of refill cartridges is the simplest carry-on-only shaving setup.
